At its core are two layers of complementary insulation:
6 inches of 4 lb/ft³ Rockwool Rockboard 40 for density and control
6 inches of low-density R19 fiberglass insulation, which excels at dissipating sound energy in deep porous absorbers
This dual-density composition, paired with an open-frame construction on all six sides, ensures full airflow and absorption from every direction, making SubFreq one of the most effective prefabricated bass traps available anywhere.
Even with its increased depth, SubFreq weighs roughly 30 pounds, thanks to a precision CNC-cut plywood frame designed for both rigidity and efficiency.
When installed with a 12-inch air gap, SubFreq maintains an NRC of 0.5 at 30 Hz and provides broadband absorption up through the entire audible frequency range, making it a true full-spectrum acoustic control solution.
